The Eighth Carol of Christmas

There have been moments where I've been so excited about something that I've wanted to tell everybody about it. I want the random stranger passing me in the supermarket, the lady at the checkout, the gentleman walking his dog, and the child heading home from school to share my joy and rejoice with me.

Isaiah had some pretty good news to share with the people of Israel; so good that He encouraged those who brought good news to climb up to a mountain top and shout it to the world.

"O Thou that tellest good tidings to Zion; get Thee up into the high mountain."

And what was the good news?

"Behold Thy king cometh unto Thee!"

And not just any king, and king promised since our first parents sinned in the garden. The long awaited seed of the woman would arrive to crush the serpent's head.

If we're going to climb mountain tops and shout about wonderful things, of all things, this seems most fitting, most worthy.

Not just any king is coming, The King has come and we celebrate his coming and following triumph every year.

Climb to the top of the highest mountain,
Joyous tidings proclaim to the world,
Lift up your voice, shout the good news:
Behold, your Lord comes to you.

He will feed his flock like a shepherd,
He will carry the lambs in his arms,
He will ever keep them safe from harm.
Behold, your Lord comes to you.

He who made the stars in the heaven,
He who fashioned the earth and the sea,
From time eternal he was God,
The Alpha and Omega, He.
Behold, your Lord!

He will come in power and glory,
He will rule with mercy truth,
Hope of all the nations
Light of all the world!

He will love the little children,
He will hold them in his arms.
Love him and trust him as a child,
Behold, your Lord comes to you.

        Behold Your King!
